JAMMU, Nov 17: A social activist Balvinder Singh today met Dr Shashi Sudan, Principal, Government Medical College Jammu and submitted a memorandum of suggestions for improving patient care facilities in the premier health institution of Jammu.
Dr Dara Singh, Superintendent of the Hospital, Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Administrator Associated Hospitals and Balvinder Singh, private secretary to Principal GMC and another social activist Sharanjit Singh were also present on the occasion.
Singh said in the representation that there are many lacunae/deficiencies which need to be rectified for the betterment of the derailed institution, so that this divisional medical college serves the purpose.
He said so far unsatisfied patients leave this medical college and get treated at nursing homes at Pathankot, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and other towns of adjoining states. This trend needs to be stopped by stream lining the system, he asserted.
Balvinder laid stress on regular attendance of the employees especially faculty by face recognition, punctuality in OPD with a record of patients examined by each consultant/each room of OPD, so that more patients go satisfied.
He further emphasized on revival of roster of consultants visiting the emergency between 6-10 PM as in the past, to supervise/help the residents during evening hours. He also laid stress on maintaining record of each consultant doing surgeries in a week, as people complain of getting long dates for procedures.
The activist also advised to end market prescription of medicines especially antibiotic salts available in hospital supply, display the list of tests done in GMC along with rates and time of the test, make round the clock availability of tests such as RAT, HIV and Hepatitis screening in GMC and arrange skilled/trained staff for handling AMBU Bag (Artificial Manual breathing Unit).
