NEW DELHI, Dec 10:Congress is likely to crack the whip on six of its MPs from Seemandhra for giving notice for no-confidence motion against the Government to protest against creation of Telangana.
“They (MPs) are from a disciplined force. If there is any indiscipline, the party will take care of that,” senior Congress leader and Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters here today.
He was replying to a question whether Congress was going to initiate action against the party MPs for giving notice for the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha against their own Government.
Shinde, who is also the Leader of Lok Sabha, said due to the uproar in the House on a number of issues, the motion was not taken up by the Speaker today.
“Today, the House was not ready to discuss, no one is ready to listen. There was confusion and then the House was adjourned,” he said.
Asked whether the Speaker would admit the motion, the Home Minister said it was for the Speaker to take a call on it.
“The Speaker does her own work, the Government does its own. The Speaker acts on each motion as per the rules,” he said.
The Seemandhra Congress MPs, four TDP members and three members of YSR Congress Party gave separate notices to the Speaker Meira Kumar for moving a no-trust motion.
In their letter to Kumar, the Congress MPs sought permission to move a motion expressing no-confidence in the Union Council of Ministers under Rule 198 of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha.
The MPs have been strongly opposing division of Andhra Pradesh and have submitted their resignation from Lok Sabha which have not been accepted.
Asked whether the Bill for creation of Telangana has been forwarded to Andhra Pradesh Assembly, the Home Minister said the legislation has been sent to the President through the Prime Minister and after that it would be sent to the State Assembly.
“The Bill is with the President,” Shinde said.
On whether the Telangana Bill could be tabled in the current session of Parliament which will last only till December 20, he said the Government wanted to complete the process, including presidential approval to the Bill and of sending it to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for ratification.
“Let us see. Let us complete this process, then we will see,” he said.
Asked whether the Centre would set a “bad precedent” by deciding to table the Telangana Bill in Parliament without approval of the state Assembly, the Home Minister said the people of Andhra Pradesh knew long ago that Telangana would be created.
Shinde said it was part of the Congress party’s manifesto in 2004 and there was an announcement in this regard in 2009 too.
“The whole of Andhra Pradesh knew what was going to happen,” he said.
Shinde said the law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh was reviewed and 95 companies (100 personnel in each company) of paramility forces will remain deployed there till December 31 for maintaining order in the state. (PTI)
