‘Acche Din’ of jobs for J&K youth

JAMMU, Dec 15:  Government of India’s National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is apparently bringing ‘Acche Din’ of jobs for educated unemployed youth of Jammu and Kashmir as a number of Corporates from different sectors have lined up at the doorstep offering suitable placements.
For the first time, a mega recruitment drive is being conducted by the NSDC  under its initiative Udaan, specifically for J&K youth, wherein top Corporates from Auto, Retail, Banking, Finance, Hospitality, Education, IT/ITES and  Security Sectors etc, are looking  for fresh recruits from Jammu.
After successful conduct of a similar drive in Kashmir valley last month, where more than 2000 youth were recruited for training and subsequent final placement, NSDC has brought 25 top Corporates offering variety of jobs for Jammu youth.
The two-day drive began today at Hotel Jhelum Resorts near Bahu Plaza Complex, Jammu, wherein a number of educated unemployed youth are appearing for the eligibility tests, including written, group discussion and then final interview.
Corporates like Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Genpact, IL&FS, Reliance HR Services, Accenture, Ratnakar Bank etc are participating in the ongoing drive to recruit fresh talent from Jammu.
On the first day, around 600 candidates were registered for selection in different Corporates and a greater number of applicants are expected tomorrow, said Bhavana Chopra, Head Strategic Project NSDC, who along with her team has arrived here in connection with organizing the mega recruitment drive.
“You see how fortunate are the youth of Jammu and Kashmir as such a big number of  Corporates  have lined up at their doorstep offering suitable placements,” she said while pointing towards more  jobs in offer but less number of applicants.
Pertinent to mention that under Udaan, which is a J&K specific initiative of the Government of India’s National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the participating Corporates hire recruits, provide them off-site training and upon successful completion of the exercise, final placement is offered.  More than 10,000 youth of Jammu and Kashmir have so far been selected under Udaan, which was started around two years back.
Earlier, the Corporates under Udaan project used to conduct the recruitment drive individually on their own. This is for the first time that a collective and mega drive has been organized by the NSDC in the capital cities, first in Srinagar and now in Jammu.
The recent recruitment drive in Srinagar, conducted last month, saw huge response from the youth. Nearly 5,500 candidates turned up for the two day recruitment drive with 18 Corporates making offers to nearly 2000 candidates.
In Jammu, 25 Corporates have joined the drive and are offering almost 2000 jobs to the educated unemployed.
“To facilitate the youth and invite more response, the NSDC is now going to organize recruitment drives by the Corporates at district level also and the same is likely to begin soon after the ongoing Assembly elections are over,” Bhavana Chopra informed the Excelsior.
