ABVP on protest dharna against suspension of college president

UDHAMPUR, Nov 21: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi is observing an indefinite protest dharna in front of the Government Degree College (Boys), Udhampur for revocation of suspension of two students.
These students, identified as Sushant Gupta, ABVP president for the college and Pawan Singh, were suspended for observing token fast on the college campus on October 18 as a mark of tribute to the student martyrs of 1966.
Terming the act of observing fast in the college premises as `indiscipline’, the students were placed under suspension and issued show cause notice. Even after a written reply was submitted by the students, who explained that they did not create any indiscipline but only paid tributes to martyrs, the college authorities did not revoke the suspension thus triggering resentment among the ABVP activists.
Pertinent to mention that Black Days are observed on October 16, 17 and 18 every year in remembrance of the sacrifices of those students of GGM Science College in Jammu, who had died in Police action during protest for Agriculture University here.
After protest demonstrations and rallies against suspension of the students, the ABVP activists began indefinite dharna in front of the college from Tuesday. ABVP State organizing secretary Pawan Sharma has threatened to launch an agitation if suspension of the students is not revoked immediately.
On the other hand, Principal of GDC (Boys) Udhampur, Dr Nutan Rasotra told the Excelsior that only Sushant Gupta had been suspended for his unlawful activities on the campus and disrupting normal functioning of the college. He also alleged that the ABVP activists were intentionally creating un-necessary controversy over the issue for political reasons.
