Absence of footbridge

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Work on footbridge lying abandoned for 3 years’ DE Apr 1, 2019.
The enclosed photograph with the news item can sends a shiver down the spine of anyone who sees it. To cross the stream is risky not only for school children, but also the people of the villages living nearby.
The absence of the footbridge also underlines the fact that our elected representatives and bureaucrats are not sensitive enough to redress the basic issues of the people living in far-flung areas of the State. It has been generally observed that the villagers do not remain a priority for politicians. Even though 60 percent of people still live in villages in India. Now when elections are round the corner, the villagers will be approached again for casting votes on the pretext of development in their areas. But once Government is formed, these people will be forgotten till next round of elections. And the vicious cycle goes on and on. The politicians and bureaucrats should devote their life for the cause of these poor and unheard people. Empowerment at grass root is the essence of democracy.
