JAMMU, Feb 6: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today questioned selective action of Government authorities under new land eviction drive and cautioned Government not to take action against small house and shop owners.
Addressing a press conference, senior spokesperson of J&K AAP Jagdeep Singh said that his party supports this new land drive but only if it is carried out on merits and in unbiased manner so that legal action is taken on all the encroachers irrespective of their association with any political party or organization.
He questioned selective action so far taken by the Government in this drive and said that many BJP leaders are involved in encroachment of state land to raise their bungalows as well as other structures while many BJP leaders earlier encroached state land and later sold the property to other people. “We demand action against all and there should be no favour to anyone,” Singh said.
“On one hand, J&K Lieutenant Governor issued a statement that poor people will not be touched but still it is seen that eviction notices are being served to many poor people for their small houses and shops. To stop this Government should issue a formal order so that official machinery can better understand the words of Government not to act against poor families,” he added.
He also mentioned about state land retrieved from political leaders of different parties in recent days and demanded that only retrieval of land is of no fun but Government should take stern legal action against these leaders.
Jagdeep further stated that many people plotted pieces of lands and these plots were purchased by people who raised their houses on these plots but now these owners have been served notices. Action should be taken against those who cut plots on state land, he added.
Stating that tampering with records and illegal encroachment is not possible without the support of Revenue Department staff, he said all these employees, who are either serving or have retired, should immediately be identified and put behind bars for their illegal acts of supporting encroachment of state land.
