JAMMU, Apr 28: Sheela Devi, mother of Aaj Tak Bureau Chief (J&K) Ashwani Kumar, died after prolonged illness in a private hospital in New Delhi on Monday. She was 75.
Sheela Devi, wife of retired Superintendent of Police Onkar Nath Chandra, was actively involved in social service till her last breadth.
Worried over the plight of women in private sector Sheela Devi had independently set up Damodar Satri Udyog Sanstha (DSUS) to empower more and more women in the society.
She is survived by Dr Shiv Kumar, Additional Director, DRDO, Delhi and three daughters Vijay Zadoo, Dr Girja Sharma and Sushma Handoo.
The cremation ceremony is scheduled to take place at Bhagwati Nagar, Cremation Ground on Tuesday at 4.00 p.m.
