Sir,
Politics in its very nature is hypocritical in character. In this chamleonic game a politician has to be shrewd and charismatic if he has to stay in the game. The main aim of the elite is to stay in power and to maintain it. For this purpose, he indulges in different kinds of gimmicks to woo innocent voters.
After independence, elections were fought from time to time by using different poll planks like freedom struggle, development, poverty alleviation and et al. These election manifestos proved to be useful for the elite to lure common people to garner support and come to power.
However, the ground reality is that even after more than fifty years of independence, the over all scenario has not witnessed any radical change. Casteism, illiteracy, poverty, parochial ideologies like regionalism, communalism have shown a growing trend. Elite have never shown sincere desire to lift common people and tread them on the right path which can lead them towards progess and prosperity.
What the nation needs at the moment is the healthy economic growth, sound fiscal policy, employment generation, clean environment, low morbidity rate and so many other issues. People are not interested in politics of witch hunting and this is one of the reason why educated class is generally abstaining from voting.
Abstaining from voting or pressing the button for “NOTA” is no solution. People should participate in polling process but should show prudence and sagacity to choose right candidates who are honest, dedicated, literate and young and energetic. The future of our democracy is safe in the hands of such people.
NGOs, teachers and other organizations should come forward and play a positive role in providing education to voters to develop them in mature and conscious voters.
Yours etc…
