Gh. Nabi Aatish
Poet writer, dramatist, translator and musician-Som Nath Bhat ‘Veer’ is this time passing through seventy three years of age.
The journey of Som Nath Veer’s poetry crossed over sixty years this time. He has been writing since 1959. He has so far published some booklets of his poetry and achieved admiration from literary forums. Before crossing over  Banihal pass, he was famous   among general public of Anantnag district. He used to top in poetic Symposiums (Mushairas) with his melodious and impressive voice. He is himself a musician and due to this quality he impressed the listeners by his sweet tunes while reciting his poetry. It is a  matter of pleasure that Som Nath Bhat ‘Veer” has published the whole poetry which he composed in verse from early sixties upto 6th January, 2012. This whole work has been named as Deevan-e-Veer. It consists of 407 poems. Each and every poem is shown with the date of composition at the end of the poem. This poetry collection of the poet is his lone earning. This treasure of poetry contains patriotic songs, social inequality, social evils, many poems about day today problems and deep thinking of life and also about one hundred gazals (lyrics) and three and a half dozens bhajans besides poems about communal harmony. This treasure contains a beautiful corner of that material also which imparts moral education and amusement to children. In this way, the importance and utility of this poetry collection has become manifold and vast through its different colors and subjects.
Mr Veer has written the date of composition with each and every poem so as to make easy the recognition of evolutionary stages of his poetry. Keeping in view the different shades of poems in this collection, this book has variety of poetry styles such as Nazams (poems), Vachans (lyrics), Quardrents, Poetic dialogues, Vanvun (Folk Songs), poetical features, songs for children, Vakhs (small poems), chorus, parodies and Leela bhajans (Devoutional songs) etc. This variety of subjects is clear proof of his spontaneity and hold over language. He has never tried to impress the reader with non-understandable thoughts, brisk fashionable words and tedious forms of modernity. He did never get impressed by any unknown poetry trends. His poetry style is totally different from others.
