JAMMU, June 19: District Congress Committee (DCC), Jammu Rural led by its president, Th Hari Singh Chib today distributed dry ration kits and other essential commodities among poor and needy people to mark 50th birthday of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi here on Friday.
The dry ration kits and other essential commodities were distributed among the needy people to alleviate the pain and sufferings of the people during this difficult time in view of COVID-19 pandemic. Ration and other essential commodities were provided to more than 150 people at Lower Roop Nagar area of Jammu West.
Speaking on the occasion, DCC chief, Hari Singh Chib said that Rahul Gandhi has decided not to celebrate his birthday in the wake of coronavirus pandemic and the martyrdom of 20 Indian Army personnel during a violent clash with the Chinese troops in Galwan Valley of Ladakh sector on Monday night.
Chib said with people of all sections of the society having been economically hit due to the Corona pandemic, the Government needed to show compassion and provide special succour particularly to the financially distressed poor and marginalized sections of the society. He said the labourers, farmers, small traders, self employed, taxi and auto operators, the `Rehri’ and `Phari’ vendors have been worst affected due to Covid-19 and facing financial hardships. With the poor sections having exhausted all their savings, they are finding it hard to make both ends meet.
DCC president asked Government to come up with concrete relief measures for this section of society whose livelihood has got affected by lock down in view of Coronavirus outbreak in Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed the Lt Governor to issue directions to the authorities concerned to provide ration and monthly cash assistance to the poor and needy people till the crisis is over.
Among others present on the occasion included Somnath Sharma, former Block president Bhalwal, Virender Mehta, Tarun Vaid and others.
