JAMMU, June 17: Newly appointed Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, Prof J P Sharma today conducted maiden visit of main campus, Chatha in the early morning.
He was accompanied by Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension and Estates Officer, Er Iqbal Singh alongwith all the officials of Estates Division. The visit started with round to Baba Jitto University Auditorium, University canteen, Health Centre including students hostels.
He advised the staff of Health Centre to maintain healthy and hygienic atmosphere in the premises. During the visit to the hostels, Prof Sharma took stock of the various facilities provided to hostellers struck due to COVID pandemic and issued on spot instructions to the concerned officials to ensure the welfare of students. The struck hostellers, while interacting with the Vice Chancellor, showed their satisfaction and extended warms thanks to the University administration for providing all the necessary facilities to them during this hard time.
This was followed by visit to Integrated Farming System Research (IFSR), Chatha where the VC advised the scientific staff of IFSR to conduct need based research beneficial for the farmers. He also stressed upon the need of promoting such models among farming community to help them to enhance their income, which is the priority of Prime Minister of India.
Thereafter he conducted visit of different divisions of Faculty of Agriculture. During this visit, Prof Sharma had discussion with statutory officers (Dr R K Gupta, Director Research, Dr S K Gupta, Director Education, Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension, Dr D P Abrol, Faculty of Agriculture) and HODs of Faculty of Agriculture in the committee room. He stressed upon the major concerns related to increase in the income and quality of life of farming community by laying emphasis on Integrated Farming System model, protected cultivation, Bee keeping, replication of successful farmers led innovations and marketing innovations. He stressed for protected cultivation, processing and value addition facilities at the KVKs of the University and advised the scientific staff to submit action orientated projects to different funding agencies having direct benefit to the farmers.
After the interaction, Vice-Chancellor visited the Laboratories of Faculty of Agriculture.
