JAMMU, Apr 24: In a rarest of rare case, Gharota Police has solved the murder case of a man, who was shot dead on February 25 this year, by arresting the Sarpanch and his family of Gharota area here.
On February 25, a case was registered at Police Station Gharota wherein it was reported that Sodagar Singh (Naib Sarpanch of Barn), his brothers including Chanchal Singh alias Baba Chanchal, Ràjan Singh, Neelam Singh and others barged into the house of one Sarpanch Dalveer Singh at midnight and fired indiscriminately, SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil said here while talking to the reporters in a press conference.
SSP said that in firing, one Kashmir Singh (cousin of Sarpanch) died while the Sarpanch and his sister Geeta Devi suffered injuries and a pet dog was also killed on the spot.
Patil added that a case was registered and investigation started and during the course of investigation, alleged accused persons including Naib Sarpanch Sodagar Singh, his brothers were arrested and they were put to sustained interrogations, Polygraphy Tests and other legal discourses.
“A Special Investigation Team was also constituted headed by Vinay Sharma SP South Jammu alongwith other members comprising Diwakar Singh, DySP SOG Jammu, Inspector Parveiz Sajad SHO Police Station Channi Himmat, Inspector Rajesh Sharma SHO Police Station Gharota and ASI Sunil Singh,” said Patil.
He said that during the course of investigation, all evidences were put to scientific analysis, witnesses were re-examined and due to inconsistency in the statements of eye witnesses (all members of Sarpanch family), scientific evidences collected indicated lot of suspicion on the story they narrated.
“During questioning, the Sarpanch spilled beans and confessed a conspiracy hatched by him alongwith brother and other family members out of which they killed own cousin and injured self and sister with non fatal bullet shot injuries,” he asserted.
The motive was to implicate Naib Sarpanch and his brothers in a false case for having political rivalries, land, property disputes and trapping him in sexual harassment case, he added.
The weapon of offence alongwith cartridges was recovered, he said and added that all three co-conspirators were arrested in murder of Kashmir Singh while another person named Suram Singh alias Baba Suram of Barn was also arrested for fabricating false evidences to mislead the investigation of this sensational case.
Further investigations of the case are in progress, said the SSP.
SSP Jammu Sridhar Patil has also appreciated Gharota Police especially SHO Inspector Rajesh Sharma for solving the murder case.
