Newly constituted Commission for Backward Classes not justified: BSP

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Mar 21: A meeting of BSP was held here today under the chairmanship of Charanjeet Chargotra, BSP J&K Vice President to discuss the newly constituted Commission for Backward Classes.
Speakers in the meeting said the Commission was not justified because 8 per cent reservation to SCs is already provided according to their population and SCs are fully satisfied with this provision.
They further said that as far Social and Backward Classes are concerned, the Supreme Court has already settled the issue once for all in much publicized case of Indira Sawhney Vs Govt of India wherein it was ruled that States should provide reservation to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (OBC) in proportion to their population.
The speakers also said that if J&K has been converted into UT and 143 central laws have already been extended to J&K then why should central laws for OBC reservation are not implemented in J&K UT?
Demand of member from Socially and Educationally Backward Classes in the Commission was also raised.
Raj Kumar Chalotra, BSP Secretary J&K; Rakesh Verma, Om Parkash Kataria, Kuldeep Chalotra, Joginder Angotra and others were also present in the meeting.
