JAMMU, Mar 12: No CCTVs have been installed with the traffic signals in capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar while out of nearly 45,500 street lights existing in both these cities, 1881 were lying defunct.
While responding to the question of Dharamvir Singh Oberai in the Upper House today, Minister Incharge Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora said that 15683 street lights in Srinagar and 29882 such lights have been installed in Jammu city by the Municipal Corporations. Mr Jora disclosed that besides MCs, PDD and Tourism Departments have also installed some lights in the capital cities.
He further said that lights are repaired by the agency to whom contract is accorded. The defected ones are repaired by the Municipal Corporations by their own.
In written reply to the question of NC Legislator Ajat Shatru Singh, the Government admitted that traffic signals in Jammu and Srinagar cities have been installed without CCTV cameras, as CCTVs were not part of the contract. At present there was no proposal to install CCTVs with the traffic signals in Srinagar and Jammu cities.
