MENDHAR, Jan 28: The people in large number, supported by Beopar Mandal and students, held strong protest demonstration against the Power and PHE authorities and also took out a protest rally here today.
Several local social and political activists joined the protest. Sarpanch Devinder Tandon, Parveen Sawhney – president Beopar Mandal, Youth PDP leader Nadeem Khan and Satish Sharma noted social activist were leading this protest. Hundreds of people took out protest rally in the town. The protesters after passing through main bazaar Mendhar reached the office of SDM at Tehsil Complex and started protest demonstration.
They raised loud slogans against the Chief Minister, PHE Minister and other senior officers of these departments. They alleged that due to long power cuts, water supply has also been badly hit and people are facing lot of problems. Especially, the students are unable to perform their studies. They also raised slogans against BSNL for its worst service in the area. Several local leaders addressed the gathering and asked the concerned authorities to improve the power and water supply position or get ready to face the public wrath. They continued their protest dharna there from 10.30 am to around 2 pm.
The students from Higher Secondary Schools, Degree College then also came out on the road to lodge their protest against PDD and blocked Jammu-Mendhar road at Sangala Chowk at around 2.15 pm. The movement of traffic came to halt with their protest. They were also raising slogans against the PDD authorities and alleged that their studies are being affected with power crisis in the area. Later, Tehsildar Mendhar Iqbal Singh and SDPO Amit Bhasin reached there and gave assurance to the agitating students to take up issue strongly with the senior officers in the PDD. The students then lifted dharna after an hour and allowed movement of traffic.
