Rajouri, Jan 27: People from about half a dozen villages in Thannamandi area held strong protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) and blocked main Rajouri-Thannamandi road near Shahdara Sharief Morh, disrupting movement of traffic for about four hours today.
These villagers led by Naib Sarpanch Azmatabad, Javed Khan and Sarpanch from Manial village, Abdullah Khan came out on the road at around 10 am today near Thannamandi at Shahdara Morh and raised barricades. The people from Pangai, Karyot, Sain Tasa and adjoining hamlets were accompanying them. They started protest demonstration against the PDD authorities at Thannamandi and Rajouri for their failure to restore power in last 20 days.
These villagers alleged that several poles and even cables were broken and the field staff is hardly bothered to restore the power supply. The locals of these areas are facing severe difficulties during these cold conditions. The studies of the students are also badly hit. They alleged that concerned JE and field staff were requested repeatedly but they are unconcerned over the issue. They raised loud slogans against PDD Minister, Chief Engineer and Executive Engineer PDD Rajouri and demanded immediate shifting of JE concerned from Thannamandi. SHO Thannamandi, Haji Bashir reached there to clear the road but people refused to listen.
Later, Tehsildar Thannamandi Farooq Khan spoke to the Sarpanch and Naib Sarpanch on phone and gave them assurance to take up this issue with the Chief Engineer PDD for early restoration of power. With Tehsildar’s intervention, the public then lifted dharna at around 2 pm. The traffic on both sides of the road remained suspended for about four long hours, causing lot of inconvenience to the commuters.
