R L Bhat’s Abhinavgupta Paatha hits stands

JAMMU, Nov 26: Veteran Shatra Scholar and former Principal Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Prof Vishvamurti Shastri said the contribution of Kashmiri scholars to poetics, aesthetics and dramaturgy of India is immense and colossal in scope.
Shastri Ji, who presided the release of Dr R L Bhat’s book Abhinavgupta Paatha at K L Sehgal Hall here this afternoon said Kashmiri Pandits have made tremendous contribution to Darshan Shaster of India. He highly acclaimed the author of Abhinavgupta Paatha saying that the book is a great contribution and he has kept the legacy intact. The book was released by Samprati an organization of Writers in Exile.
He said the Abhinavgupt Paatha is a unique research work undertaken by Dr Bhat. The book is a commentary on the comparative textual study of the commentaries on Shriimad Bhagwat Geeta by Shankara, Raamakanttha and world famous saint philosopher Acharya Abhinavgupt. Terming Dr Bhat’s book a great contribution, he said the book is confluence of three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Sarswarti. He said that the work ably refutes the wrong notion that Bhagavad Gita came to public notice only after the Englishmen translated it.
Professor Zafar said that R L Bhat has conducted the research meticulously and has produced a text which really achieves the objective set by him. He has analysed the issues relating to the various recessions of Shriimad Bhagavad Giitaa, logically and comprehensively. The introduction which is a testimony to the erudition and scholarship of the author touches many other issues in the field of cultural studies including the issues relating to the conservation and preservation of the ancient texts. Professor Trisal spoke about the specific title of the work Abhinava Paattha. He described the significance of the traditional text, the transmission in the Shaaradaa and other scripts and the other peculiarities of the work. He said that the work is one of the rear studies on the subject of Shriimad Bhagavad Giitaa.
Though countless studies of the holy scripture have been made and books written on it, the work by R L Bhat is a unique one. Few studies of this nature have been made anywhere so far.
Chief guest Shiva Prasad spoke about the work of the saint philosopher Aachaarya Abhinavagupta, who lends his name to the work Abhinava Paattha.
Dr Roshan Saraf, president Samprati welcomed the guests, and noted writer and critic Pradeep Koul Khodbaly conducted the proceedings.
