JAMMU, July 12: The irate residents of various localities of Thanamadi today staged a protest demonstration against BDO Thanamandi in front of ACD Office, Rajouri.
The protestors including some sarpanchs and ex-sarpanchs and prominent people of the area raised slogans against the BDO Thanamadi and officers of the Department for not releasing the payments of laborers who have worked under various schemes in the area.
The protestors accused the BDO of deliberately not releasing the payments to laborers for the works completed four months back. They said some of the laborers are at the verge of starvation as the authorities have failed to release the payment to them.
Earlier the protestors handed over a memorandum to ACD, Rajouri seeking action against the highhandedness of BDO.
They said that no payment was released for last four months for the works constructed under Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, PMGSY and MNREGA in the area by the BDO.
They alleged that for the release of FTO, Rs 5000 are being demanded. The people of Mangota, Manihal, Karyot, Azmatabad, Kotamore and other villages participated in the protest.
Later the people also met the DC Rajouri, Aijaz Asad who issued instructions to the ACD to order inquiry in the matter. However ,the ACD , Akhtar Hussian had already ordered inquiry into the matter. The DC assured the protestors that the BDO will be shifted. The protestors also alleged that out of 30 Panchayats Rs 20 lakh was released to two Panchyats for purchase of material while other panchyats were ignored by BDO.
