JAMMU, Sept 21: Gangyal police under “Operation Sanjeevani” apprehended two Punjab based drug peddlers along with 10 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gangyal Police Station laid a naka near Kunjwani Chowk and signalled a Punjab bound Swift Dzire car bearing registration number PB11CB-5647 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 10 kilograms of poppy straw from the possession of the two persons travelling in the car and arrested them.
The arrested persons have been identified as Balwinder Singh, son of Sadhu Singh and Malkeet Singh, son of Karnail Singh, both residents of Punjab.
During preliminary questioning, the accused disclosed that they had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling among the youth. With their arrest, police saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 70/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gangyal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali and assisted by SI Amar Chand, Sgct Kuldeep Singh, Sgct Nazir Hussain, Constable Sanjeev Singh and SPO Subash Chander made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
