MeT warns of inclement weather

Srinagar, Apr 3: Meteorological Department has warned of inclement weather from April 4 to April 6 this week as fresh western disturbance is approaching State and issued weather advisory today.
Director MeT, Sonam Lotus, said here that an active western disturbance is likely to affect J&K from April 4 to 6. He said: “Light rain at scattered to fairly widespread places with snowfall on higher reaches is likely to commence from April 4. The intensity and spatial distribution of precipitation will increase from April 4 evening with widespread rainfall/snowfall (on higher reaches) on April 5 and April 6 across the State of J&K.”
The MeT director said heavy rain/thunderstorm accompanied with squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir on April 5. “Some places of Jammu & Kashmir are likely to receive hailstorm during April 5 and April 6. He said that there is possibility of landslide and snow avalanche in vulnerable areas like Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh (Zojila) highway on April 5 and April 6.
Lotus said farmers are advised to postpone their farm management practices like spray of orchards and application of fertilizers etc. He also said that passengers are advised to contact respective Traffic Control Rooms prior to their journey along highways.
