JAMMU, Dec 26: Terming the upcoming Budget Session of Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly a cruel joke with democracy, MLA Udhampur, Pawan Gupta today said that a session with sitting days of 23 days, make democratic institutions a mockery by strangulating the voice of the people’s representatives.
Gupta said that the PDP-BJP Coalition because of its misgovernance, exposed non performance and surfaced instances of gross misconduct and corruption, especially after demonetization, is shivering to face the people’s representatives on the floor of the House and therefore has tailored a way to face saving process by curtailing the session to mere 23 days.
“The Government has to place General Budget as well as demands of 29 departments on the table of the House, besides the days fixed for discussion on the Governor’s address and passing Government Legislative Business coupled with private members Bills and resolutions”, the MLA said.
He added that mere 23 days sittings of the assembly exposes the nefarious attention of the PDP-BJP coalition to get passed the Budget as well as Legislations in hush-hush manners without affording proper time for the people’s representatives for preparations and making valuable contributions on the floor of the House by raising vital issues of public importance and associate in Legislative process for public good apart from curving the wrongs of the treasury benches as watched dog of the people.
Gupta said that even during the last session, a resolution moved by MLA Taragami had demanded at least 100 days sittings in a year but it is unfortunate that instead of compensatory process of more than 50 days sittings in the present Budget Session, it has been reduced to mere 23 days sittings.
He demanded that the Budget session should be enhanced to 50 days with half days business so that the Members of the Assembly are given due time for preparations to debate the matter in the House while raising the voice of the people, who voted them to represent.
