JAMMU, Nov 3: Mendhar has geared up for football action as seven teams from six districts to include Poonch Panthers, Rajouri Royals, Reasi Rustoms, Naushera Knight Riders, Doda Daredevils, Kishtwar Strikers and Ramban Warriors arrived to participate in the Inter District Pir Panjal Football league being organised by the Army at Mendhar. The teams are competing for the coveted Pir Panjal Trophy.
The tournament is scheduled on league cum knockout format at Op Hill Stadium Mendhar. Day one began with an exciting and well contested match between Kishtwar Strikers and Rajouri Royals which ended in a penalty shootout and was finally won by Kishtwar Strikers. This was followed by a match between Naushera Knight Riders and Reasi Rustoms, in which Naushera Knight Riders team won.
The event provides opportunity to all players to exhibit their best talent to help them get recognized for selection at the highest levels. It will help the youth to interact with each other and foster a spirit of sportsmanship and also revive and propagate the culture of sports in the State.
