SRINAGAR, June 25: There will be no rotation of Reserved Assembly constituencies or delimitation of constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir before the publication of census taken after 2026, the Legislative Assembly was informed today.
Replying to a question by Rajesh Gupta in the House, Law and Justice Minister Abdul Haq Khan said Section 47 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir provides that until the relevant figures of the first census taken after the year 2026 have been published, it shall not be necessary to readjust the total number of seats in the Legislative Assembly and the division of the State into territorial constituencies.
Similarly, provision to Sub-Section (1) of Section (3) of the Jammu and Kashmir Representation of People’s Act, 1957 provides that until relevant figures for the first census taken after the year 2026 have been published, it shall not be necessary to constitute a commission to determine of Assembly constituencies in the State.
Therefore, the reply said delimitation of the constituencies and rotation of reserved constituencies is not possible till the relevant figures for the first census after the year 2026 are published.
