Srinagar, June 17: A total of 24,000 Government schools are functioning across Jammu and Kashmir, Legislative Council was informed today.
In a written reply to a question of Congress legislator, Ghulam Nabi Monga, the Minister Incharge School Education said that out of these 24000 schools, 3372 are functioning in rented buildings, 18614 in Government-owned buildings and 2014 are functioning from rent free accommodation.
The Minister said as on date, 3800 schools have been brought under rationalization in the State and this has resulted in availability of surplus teachers numbering more than 5500 who have been deployed to other institutions with higher enrollment as also to the schools with secondary sections to meet the teaching faculty requirement.
