JAMMU, Sept 17: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today said that Government has formulated a master plan to improve the basic amenities in urban centres of the State, adding that people’s cooperation was imperative for achieving the target.
The Minister was interacting with the locals at Khalsa Chowk in Nanak Nagar after assessing development related issues, here today.
Mr. Bhalla said that Central Government has provided liberal funding to the State Government for developing every area with all infrastructural facilities. He said there was no constraint of funds under PHE, PDD, JMC, R&B and ERA sectors. He said exemplary development initiatives have been taken under development sectors and focused attention was being paid to develop roads, improve water supply, health services, education facilities besides better lanes and drains.
The Minister said that the Government was committed to make its functionaries more accountable and Public Service Guarantee Act was a landmark initiative in this direction. He said that time bound delivery of public services would go a long way in ensuring that administration was made people friendly and an efficient delivery mechanism was put in place.
Mr. Bhalla said that the Government has launched several schemes to upgrade the living standard of urban pockets of the state. He informed that the Government has provided Rs 3.12 lakh under BSUP to each houseless urban poor state subject through JMC for construction of house after proper verification by the JMC officers. He called upon them to approach JMC and avail benefit of these schemes.
Responding to the local demands, Mr. Bhalla asked the JMC authorities to install street lights in Khalsa Chowk and its adjoining localities so that the residents do not face any inconvenience during odd hours. He said that the Government’s priority was to develop every nook and corner of the state with all improved facilities.
Regarding macademisation of Khalsa Chowk road, Mr. Bhalla said that the upgradation including blacktopping would be started immediately after the monsoon. He sought people’s cooperation in ensuring completion of all the ongoing development projects in their respective localities within prescribed time.
At Sanjay Nagar, the Minister laid foundation stone of Public Convenience being constructed by International Sulabh agency at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh.
