Rediscover the magic of theatre-Jammu to host India’s Biggest Theatre Festival

JAMMU, Feb 1:  Jammu is set to host the Bharat Rang Mahotsav, (BRM) the prestigious international theatre festival conducted annually by National School of Drama, New Delhi.
To be held in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, the best of world theatre will be on display at the parallel festival of 18th Bharat Rang Mahotsav in the winter capital at Abhinav Theatre, here, from February 3 to 8, 2016.
This year, Jammu will be among the four centers of the Parallel Festivals which are held as part of the BRM with the aim of taking quality plays to various parts of the country. The other centers are Thiruvanan-thapuram, Ahmadabad and Bhubaneswar.
To be inaugurated by Governor of J&K, N N Vohra the parallel festival promises to be a gala event, providing a platform for the best of Indian as well as global expressions. The performances in Jammu will include on Feb 3rd- Dear Children, Sincerely …(Engl-ish), directed by Ruwanthie de Chickera and performed by Stages Theatre Group, Sri Lanka and Mashirika, Rwanda; on Feb 4th- The Comedy Of Harlequin and Pulcinella In Venezia (Italian), directed by Pino Di Buduo & Claudio De Maglio and performed by Teatro Potlach, Italy; on Feb 5th- Ramayana – A Puppet Dance Drama (Hindi), directed by Shanti Bardhan and performed by Ranga-Sri Little Ballet Troupe, Bhopal; on Feb 6th- Pigeon Show: A Play of Fools (English), directed by Ronlin Foreman and performed by Individual Performance, USA; on Feb 7th- Armen Pather (Kashmiri), directed by Ravi Shankar Kemmu and performed by ALG Cultural Society, J&K; and on Feb 8th- Agni Varsham (Telugu), directed by Dr. Rammohan Holagundi and performed by Nishumbita Cultural Associa-tion, Hyderabad.
Conceptualized and designed with the theme of ‘Rediscover the magic of theatre’, the 18th edition of National School of Drama’s flagship theatre festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav, this year attempts to connect theatre with the masses and enable audiences to experience some of the finest performances from across the world.
The entry to the festival is by invitations only. The invitation cards can be collected from the office of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, at Canal Road.
