JAMMU, Dec 14: Elected DGPC Member from Jammu Avtar Singh Khalsa has demanded that Sikh community be provided representation in the State Government.
Talking to media-persons here today, Khalsa said that a deputation of the some elected members of the DGPC met the Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed recently and took up the burning issues of the community with him. A charter of demands was also presented to the Chief Minister. Ramnik Singh Bijral, Fateh Singh, Raja Singh, Darvinder Singh and some other community leaders also accompanied him during the meeting with the Mufti Sayeed.
While referring to the issues discussed with the Chief Minister, Mr Khalsa said that they strongly pleaded for providing representation to Sikh community in the State Cabinet and formation of Minority Commission in the State.
The issue with regard to the election of State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board and non-submission of reply by the Government in the High Court was also taken up during the talks.
The deputation also demanded that the compensation released by the Central Government for the refugee of the 1947, 1965 and 1971 was very small and each family be paid at least Rs 25 lakh as recommended by the State Government. It was also demanded to implement the Punjabi language at the schools level and creation of the posts of Punjabi teachers. The deputation also took up the issue of compensation to the family of Sikh youth Jasjeet Singh who was killed in police firing in June 2015 and removal of SSP Jammu.
