LEH/KARGIL, Aug 16: The 69th Independence Day was celebrated across Ladakh region with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.
Leh: Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar unfurled the National Flag at Council Secretariat in presence of all the Executive Councilors, Councilors, DC, Leh Saugat Biswas and the staff of Council Secretariat.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Spalbar said that Independence Day is a moment to remember the freedom fighters who gave supreme sacrifices to attain independence for the country. He stressed that this occasion is a day to take commitment to serve our motherland and contribute our part of duty and responsibility for the development and progress of the nation.
Among the prominent present on the occasion were Executive Councilor Animal Husbandry, Gyurmet Dorjey, Executive Councilor Tourism, Mohammad Shafi Lassu, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Saugat Biswas, SSP Leh, Dr Sunil Gupta, heads of political, religious and social organizations and district and Army officers.
Like in Leh, the Sub-Divisional Headquarters, Block Headquarters and Niabats of Leh district also celebrated the 69th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and gaiety.
Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor Haji Muhammad Haneefa Jan hoisted the tricolour at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Bemathang and took salute at an impressive march past consisting of the contingents of Jammu and Kashmir Police, NCC Army Band Party besides the contingents of students from various schools.
Speaking on the occasion, Haneefa Jan recalled the supreme sacrifices of the national heroes who laid down their lives for the freedom of the country. He said that this freedom has been won only after paying a lot of sacrifices, and it is the duty of every citizen to maintain and uphold the principles of dignity and integrity.
The Chief Executive Councilor further said that Hill Council Kargil is fortunate enough to have the continuous encouragement and support of the State Government especially the Chief Minister who is very much keen to see Kargil develop on all fronts.
Colourful cultural presentations by the artists of J&K Cultural Academy and the school children mesmerized the dignitaries and the general public on the occasion.
Later, the Chief Executive Councilor distributed awards and citations among two meritorious students.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Executive Councilors, MLA Kargil Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai, Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Khursheed Iqbal Andrabi, councilors, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Hassan Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police Rahul Malik, Brigade Commander 121 infantry VPS Kaushik, Ambassador Deepak Vohra, Dr M S Sood, Joint Financial Commissioner Revenue, representatives of social, political and religious organizations, prominent citizens and a mammoth gathering of the general public.
