JAMMU, June 6: Renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr Ranjit Singh has successfully performed a knee replacement surgery on an 80-year-old man using AI-powered 3D Robolens technology, enabling the patient to walk within hours of the procedure.
The patient, Aya Singh, a resident of Khalsa Chowk, Nanak Nagar, had been suffering from severe knee pain for several years. He was also dealing with hypertension for the past 15 years and was thyroid positive, factors that generally make conventional knee replacement procedures more challenging.
According to Dr Ranjit Singh, traditional robotic knee replacement surgeries often require larger incisions, drilling into the bone and longer operating times, which can increase risks for elderly patients with underlying health conditions.
He said the AI-powered 3D Robolens system uses real-time three-dimensional mapping and artificial intelligence to assist in implant placement with high precision. The technology eliminates the need for bone drilling and metal fixation pins, reducing surgical trauma, blood loss and the risk of complications.
Dr Singh said the procedure on Aya Singh was completed in around 20 minutes, and the patient was able to stand and walk with support within two hours of surgery.
Highlighting the benefits of the technology, Dr Singh said it offers a safer and less invasive option for elderly patients who may otherwise be considered high-risk candidates for knee replacement surgery.
The patient and his family expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating that the rapid recovery exceeded their expectations and allowed him to regain mobility shortly after the operation.
