SRINAGAR, May 29: Continuing its drive against drug menace under Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, police today destroyed an illicit poppy cultivation in Lar area and arrested a drug peddler in Nagbal area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
A police spokesperson said a police party from Police Post Nagbal intercepted a suspicious person at Dignibal near the Old Water Supply Scheme, Bakura. During checking, Bhung Patri Powder (Ganja-like substance) was recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Abrar Ahmad Parray, son of Mohd Ismail Parray of Nagbal Ganderbal, who was arrested and shifted to the police station, the spokesperson said.
He added that a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has also been registered at Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been taken up.
In another action, the spokesperson said during routine patrolling in village Wandhama under Police Station Lar, police found a patch of land cultivated with poppy straw-like plants. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the land was allegedly cultivated by Muzaffar Ahmad Koul son of Abdul Gaffar Koul of Wandhama.
He said a case FIR No. 16/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Lar and investigation is underway.
