NC leader expresses concern over lack of empowered governance in J&K

JAMMU, May 27: Senior leader of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Rajesh Gupta today expressed serious concern over what he described as a “prolonged democratic vacuum” in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the region continues to function without a fully empowered and accountable elected Government, even more than 18 months after reorganisation.
In a statement issued, Gupta said the absence of clearly notified business rules defining the powers and responsibilities of ministers, departments and legislators has led to administrative confusion.
He noted that although elections have been conducted, governance without clearly defined authority lacks both direction and purpose.
Highlighting the impact on administration, the senior NC leader alleged that official functioning across the Union Territory has slowed significantly.
He claimed that important files are moving at a “glacial pace,” while key policy decisions remain stalled due to procedural ambiguity.
