10 vehicles involved in illegal mining seized at Kathua

SRINAGAR, May 15: The police today seized five vehicles involved in illegal mining activities during separate operations in Anantnag district as part of the ongoing drive against unlawful extraction and transportation of minor minerals.
A police spokesperson said that a team from Police Station Srigufwara intercepted and seized four tractors during naka checking at Srigufwara for allegedly transporting illegally extracted boulders, “FIR No. 49/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Srigufwara and investigation has been taken up,” he said.
In another operation, Police Station Utrasoo intercepted a tractor bearing registration number JK13E-4993 at Bosan crossing carrying illegally extracted minor minerals. The vehicle was being driven by Gowhar Ahmad Shergojri of Krad, the spokesperson said.
Police said cognisance in the matter has been taken under law. “Strict legal action will continue against those involved in illegal mining and exploitation of natural resources,” the police spokesperson said.
