JAMMU, Apr 30: On 137th birth anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan, first Prime Minister of J&K, Mahajan Sabha, Gandhi Nagar, here today organized a community congregation ‘Mahajan Milan’ and paid rich tributes to Justice Mahajan.
Divya Singh, grand-daughter of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan was chief guest on this occasion.
The function started with the dignitaries garlanding the portrait of Justice Mahajan.
Former Ministers-Ajay Sadhotra and Babu Ram Paul; Vikram Randhawa, MLA and Rattan Lal Gupta, provincial NC president for Jammu were guests of honour along with Bhanu Mahajan, senior Congress leader and Rekha Mahajan, senior BJP leader.
On this occasion blankets were distributed to the needy and poor people.
Jugal Mahajan, chief patron of Gandhi Nagar Mahajan Sabha presided over the function and welcomed the invited guests.
He talked about the charitable activities of the Sabha and said that service to the poor and needy people has been the objective of Mahajan Sabha.
Jugal Mahajan called for emulating the values and principles of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan in our lives.
“J&K and the whole of country cannot forget the services of Justice Mahajan first as a member of Radcliff Boundary Commission and then as the PM of J&K princely State,” he maintained adding that High Court Chowk Jammu has been named after Justice Mahajan and his statue has also been installed there.
Ravi Rohmetra, noted Columnist and social activist paid rich tributes to Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan and described him as a great patriot with whose wisdom J&K became integral part of India.
He recalled contributions of Justice Mahajan in different capacities like Chief Justice of India etc.
While remembering Justice Mahajan, K.B Jandial (retired IAS) said it was Justice Mahajan, who as a member of Radcliff Boundary Commissioner for Punjab ensured road connectivity to Jammu through Gurdaspur without which accession of the State with India could not be possible.
Dr. Dinesh Gupta, secretary Home for Aged and Infirm, Amphalla, Prem Gupta (IGP retired), Jagdish Vaid, president Mahajan Sabha and P.C Gupta, general secretary of Sabha also spoke on the occasion.
