SRINAGAR, Apr10: Police have arrested 14 drug peddlers and seized a large quantity of narcotic substances in multiple operations across Kashmir, while a medical shop was sealed in Kulgam for violating norms related to the sale of Schedule H medicines.
Officials said coordinated operations were carried out in Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Awantipora and Sopore, leading to multiple arrests and recoveries.
In Anantnag, police conducted a raid at a residence in Sangam and recovered nearly four kilograms of charas. Two persons, Fayaz Ahmad Dar and his son Arbaz Ahmad Dar, were arrested on the spot.
In separate naka police intercepted suspects and recovered 488 grams of charas from two individuals in Marhama, and over 190 grams from another person near Danter bridge.
In Kulgam, two suspects were apprehended at different checkpoints. Charas, heroin and cash was recovered from them.
In a related case, a suspect was arrested near Qazigund and charas concealed in corn husk was recovered.
Follow-up investigations, police said, led to further arrests in Anantnag and the seizure of over 1.2 kilograms of charas, exposing a wider narcotics supply chain.
In Pulwama, police recovered six kilograms of semi-crushed cannabis powder from a suspect during a search operation.
In Awantipora, two individuals were arrested at a checkpoint, with heroin.
In Sopore, a suspect was detained during patrolling. Codeine Phosphate bottles and heroin were recovered from them.
In a separate action, police in Qaimoh, along with the Drug Department, conducted an inspection drive targeting medical shops for illegal sale of drugs, particularly Schedule H medicines.
Police said several shops were found violating mandatory norms, including failure to maintain proper records. “One medical store was sealed on the spot, while others have been recommended for suspension of licences.”
