CGPWA organises ‘Health Talks’ on International Day of Older Persons

JAMMU, Oct 1: The Central Govt Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA) here today in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Superspeciality Narayana Hospital celebrated the 35th International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) with two Health Talks on ‘Common Gastrointestinal Concerns’ by Dr. Vishav Dev Singh, Senior Consultant and on ‘Chronic Pain Management among Elders’ by Parul Gohil, Consultant, Anaesthesia & Pain Physician of Narayana Hospital.
Kuldeep Khoda, president CGPWA presided over the function while Dr. Ashok Bhan, Member, SMVDS Board was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vishav Dev Singh said that ageing causes physiological decline in the body leading to increased digestive issues, malnutrition and chronic diseases among elders.
He advised the elders to thoroughly chew, maintain good dental health, eat slowly and sit upright while eating and also talked about liver changes in elders.
Dr. Parul Gohil said that chronic pain severely affects the elders by impairing physical functions, reducing mobility and increasing fall risk.
She said that there is limitation of medications and interventional treatment is essential for pain relief.
Dr. Ashok Bhan advised the elders to kill isolation by becoming active by talking with and meeting with friends.
Kuldeep Khoda said that elders must keep themselves physically fit with weight management by their positive attitude and active life of which physical exercise should be an integral part.
Both the doctors were honoured with presentation of planters.
Earlier, general secretary CGPWA, K.B Jandial welcomed the guests. The vice president of CGPWA, Dr. Sudarshan Kumar presented vote of thanks and Nisar Ahmad conducted the proceedings.
