Pahari students protest delay in scholarships

RAJOURI, Sept 11: A large number of Scheduled Tribe (Pahari) students (ST-2 category) staged a protest against the Tribal Affairs Department, over the delay in distribution of scholarships.
Several students from Government Degree Colleges, Kotranka and Budhal, under the banner of the College Student Union, gathered in front of their colleges and staged a peaceful protest. The students expressed resentment over the non-payment of scholarships for the current academic year, despite the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs having already sanctioned the required funds.
The agitating students raised slogans against concerned minister and demanded immediate release of the scholarship amount. They said that the delay has put students, especially those from far-flung areas, in severe difficulty as many of them rely on these scholarships to continue their studies.
Later, police reached the spot and assured the protesting students that their concerns would be conveyed to the concerned department for early redressal.
