JAMMU, Aug 21: Police today claimed to have arrested one individual involved in a hit-and-run case at Kangrail area of the district, killing an 8-year-old girl child.
Preeti, daughter of Chandan from Bihar, at present Kangrail, was hit by an unidentified vehicle on August 18 near her home, resulting in severe injuries to the child.
She was taken to Government Medical College Jammu, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
A police official said after the tragedy, a case FIR number 117/2025 under sections 281, 106 of the BNS was registered at Police Station Kanachak and investigation set into motion.
During the course of investigation, he said, police analysed the CCTV footage and with the help of other technical evidence, the accused driver, identified as Ghayas Ahmed Khan of Dargaloon, Balakote, Poonch, was arrested.
“A vehicle used in the crime (JK12A-0938) has also been seized,” he said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
