Talwara migrants to vote after 16 yrs

REASI, Apr 16: After a gap of 16 years, more than 1400 Talwara migrants will exercise their right to vote.
Reaching out to polling stations for migrants and the poor population was a herculean task. But, to facilitate the migrants and poor people residing in Talwara, Gran Morh and other locations, the District Election Officer Dr Shahid Iqbal roped in special buses to ferry them to the polling stations.
A fleet of special buses was flagged off from Talwara by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara amidst slogans of strengthening democracy by the migrants. Talwara camp has migrants from Arnas, Gulabgarh, Rajouri and Chhamb sector of Jammu.
The polling booths for the 900 migrant families are in Arnas, Prankote, Tulibana Mahore and Chassna and other locations of Gulabgarh and Gool-Arnas Assembly constituencies. Eighty-one-year-old Mohd Akram and 79 year old Dev Raj were among the eldest voters who boarded the fleet of buses from Talwara.
District administration took this unique initiative under SVEEP campaign for electoral inclusion and  facilitation. Voter slips were distributed at doorsteps of these migrants in last one week.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Rajinder Singh Tara said that for the first time, these migrants are being provided with all possible assistance so that they exercise their franchise. ARTO Reasi Rajesh Gupta, DIO Parvinder Kour and NT Munshi Ram were also present on the occasion.
