JAMMU, Apr 16: Police today registered a FIR against Independent candidate for Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat Anil Gupta alias Anu, son of rebel BJP MLA and former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta after he held a workers meeting at Chadwal even after the electioneering ended at 6 pm yesterday.
Police said a FIR under Section 188 RPC was registered against Gupta at Rajbagh police station on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, who happened to be the Returning Officer for Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat.
The holding of public meeting after the electioneering amounted to the violation of Model Code of Conduct, police said, adding further investigations have been taken up in the case.
