Jammu REZs allege discrimination

JAMMU, Apr 13: Rehbar-e-Ziraats held a meeting and discussed various burning issues including division of posts of REZ in three phases from J&K.
The speakers said that as there are 2624 REZs in J&K who are to be regularized in three phases, 1495 are from Jammu division and 1029 from Kashmir division. These positions are of individual cadre. Kashmiri REZs cannot be transferred to Jammu and similarly REZs working in Jammu can not be transferred to Kashmir.
According to the Cabinet decision, 881 candidates will be regularized in April 2014, 881 in April 2015 and 880 in April 2016. Similarly all these posts are of divisional cadre, the Government should have regularized an equal number of REZs in each division each year, they added.
In other words, 498 REZ from Jammu division and 343 REZs in Kashmir division should have been regularized in each phase. But the Agriculture Production Department (APD) has decided to divide it on 50:50 basis, which means out of 880, 440 REZs from Jammu and Kashmir divisions will be regularized in first and second phase. APD will regularize 85 per cent REZ from Kashmir division in first and second phase, whereas only 58 per cent from Jammu division, which is great injustice with the REZs of Jammu division.
The speakers added that the authorities would do well to review the irrational and anti-Jammu division so that the possibility of confrontation between the Jammu youth and the authorities is averted.
They appealed the Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene in the matter as the process of regularization is about to start.
