Govt fails to build Ganderbal Fruit Mandi

Srinagar, Dec 24: The State Government has failed to build infrastructure for a fruit market “Mandi” in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, whose demarcation and foundation stone was laid 15 years back.
Spread over 60 Kanal of land donated by locals of the area in village Zazna on Srinagar-Leh National Highway, Fruit and Vegetable Association Ganderbal, President, Ghulam Mohammad Rather said, despite repeated assurance from Government, it has failed to develop basic infrastructure for last 15 years.
The Fruit and Vegetable growers of Ganderbal today protested in Srinagar against Government’s failure to build infrastructure for Fruit Mandi.
The local fruit growers and traders said that the foundation stone of this Mandi was laid by Late Abdul Aziz Zargar, then Horticulture Minister, but only demarcation work was done during last 15 years.
The traders said the land worth crores of rupees was donated for fruit market with the hope to boast agriculture sector in the area and to provide local market to thousands of fruit and vegetable growers.
Director Horticulture, Planning and Marketing Department, Showkat Ahmed Zarger said, “from next financial year the work will start on this mandi and for that we are concentrating on this project”.
