JAMMU, Aug 2: Militants hurled a grenade at Ind Police Post falling under the jurisdiction of Gool Police Station in Ramban district early today causing injuries to two police personnel and prompting police and Army to launch a massive cordon and search operation in the area.

Reports said suspected militant(s) threw grenade aiming the Ind Police Post at 4.40 am. The grenade fell in premises of the Post and exploded with a bang injuring two jawans on duty.
The police personnel immediately took positions and fired few shots to thwart the militant attack.
The militant(s), however, managed to escape.
Injured jawans have been identified as Lal Singh, Follower and Shakeel Ahmed, Special Police Officer (SPO). The injuries were, however, minor.
Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said, “A grenade blast has occurred near the premises of Police Post Ind, which falls in the jurisdiction of Police Station Gool”.
Earlier, police sources had said that a crude bomb had been hurled at the Police Post.
The ADGP said the Jammu Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) has claimed responsibility for the attack in a letter.
The Special Operation Group (SOG), police and Army teams have been mobilised for cordon and search operations, the ADGP said.
An alert has been sounded in the district and a case registered.
Sources said the Dog Squad and Forensic experts also reached the Police Post. The Forensic experts collected splinters of the grenade blast for examination.
Search operations in the area continued till late this evening but no arrests have been made so far.
Nearly two decades back, militants had targeted Ind Police Post leading to some casualties.
There have been reports that the militants based in Kashmir and Doda are trying to revive militancy in Ramban district.
“The grenade attack is an attempt in this direction,” sources said.
