KATHUA, Aug 30: One person drowned in river Ujh at village Jakhol in Rajbagh area of Kathua district this evening, while another managed to swim safely after they were washed away by the flash floods in river this evening.
According to reports, Mohinder Singh and Mohammed Sharief residents of village Jathana in Rajbagh area had gone to Jakhol to purchase the house hold goods. As they were returning to their village and had crossed a portion of the river Ujh, suddenly they were drifted by the strong current of water as the river was in spate due to heavy rains that had lashed the hilly area of Billawar.
However Mohinder who knew swimming managed to save himself and reach the other bank after being drifted by flash floods some metres away. But Mohammed Sharief was washed away and his dead body has not been recovered so far despite many efforts by the local people of the area.
