JAMMU, Apr 6: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO ‘SAVE’ (Save Animal Value Environment) through its Chairperson Devinder Kaur Madaan alias Rumpy Madaan seeking closure of un-regulated and un-registered/un-licensed slaughter houses/meat shops in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi has directed the Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation to obtain an expert advice and submit a report to the court by the next date.
She will also inform by means of a report the manner in which the up-gradation of the existing slaughter houses is being conducted and the time within which the work would be completed, as also about the mechanism of carcasses.
After hearing Advocate SS Ahmed with Advocate Supriya Chouhan for the PIL, the DB also directed Senior AAG SS Nanda appearing for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to come out clearly as to the latest position with regard to the modern slaughter house under construction at Srinagar and, if it would be completed within the time schedule, as informed on the previous occasion.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, DB heard the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jammu and she informed that the two slaughter houses in existence are under up-gradation and for disposal of carcasses a separate mechanism is worked out and is to be established.
DB, after hearing Commissioner JMC directed her to study the matter with regard to the proposal for establishing any new slaughter houses in the city of Jammu and whether there is such requirement or not. “In case, it is so essential, whether any suitable place for the purpose is available and in this connection, she may obtain an expert advice and submit a report to the court by the next date. She will also inform by means of a report the manner in which the up-gradation of the existing slaughter house is being conducted and the time within which the work would be completed, as also about the mechanism of carcasses”, the DB added.
