JAMMU, Mar 23: JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla today slammed the Centre over the hike in petrol and diesel prices, alleging that the Government is “making a gain worth crores by plundering the poor”.
“The prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinder have been increased suddenly. All the apprehensions we had expressed about an increase in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG after the assembly elections in the five states have proved true today,” Bhalla said while interacting with prominent persons of Gandhi Nagar area.
He said Narendra Modi Government at the Centre came to power with the slogan ‘Bahut Hui Inflation Ki Maar, Abki Baar Modi Sarkar’, when a gas cylinder price was only Rs 414 during the time of the UPA Government but now the rate of LPG cylinder has increased up to Rs 1000 but the BJP Government is not bothered.
Bhalla said that the J&K administration needs to urgently adopt measures to protect the J&K’s poorest and most vulnerable people from high inflation as relief measures prove inadequate. He said that considerable percentage of J&K’s workforce is employed in the informal sector, and one-third are working as casual laborers, therefore, it is crucial that the authorities make use of maximum available resources to ensure the delivery of services.
He said the Government should pay pending wages for all work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and expand its scope to those now forced out of work. The authorities in India should take all necessary steps to ensure that everyone has access to food and medical care, and that the poor and marginalized are not mistreated or stigmatized,” Bhalla said.
