JAMMU, Aug 5: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held massive protests in different wards against delay in holding the elections of civic bodies.
Addressing the party activists at Purani Mandi Chowk, Rajesh Gupta, district president, said that the Government has been delaying the elections of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and other civic bodies for the last three years. Although repeated promises have been made by the Ministers but every time the elections are delayed on one pretext or the other. He declared that the party will intensify its agitation on the issue.
Balwan Singh, district convener, Urban Local Bodies while speaking at Rehari Chungi Chowk said that the Coalition Government’s commitment to take the democracy at the lowest level and ensure the participation of public representatives in democratic institutions has been exposed and the people are watching such attitude of the Government.
Ayodhya Gupta, Mandal President while addressing the party activists at Vikas Lane, said that the corporators who were elected in 2005 had been serving the people of their respective wards to the satisfaction of the people. There was overall development in wards but the same came to halt after the scheduled elections in 2010 were not held.
BJP senior leaders Amarnath Gupta, Shiv Kumar Gupta, district general secretary, Sanjay Baru, Mandal Presidents Praduman Singh and Kuldeep Kandhari, State working committee members Ashwani Sharma and Naresh Pradhan and Mandal convenor Dwarka Nath also addressed the gathering.
