JAMMU, Mar 25: Sikh United Front (SUF) has said that voter lists without photographs for the elections of Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees in J&K UT, were not acceptable to the Sikh organizations.
An emergency meeting of various Sikh organisations Jammu and Kashmir held under the chairmanship of Sudarshan Singh Wazir Chairman Jammu Kashmir Sikh United front to discuss the various issues confronting the Sikh community.
Wazir expressed anguish over the process of preparing voters lists for election of Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. He said Department of Elections in JK UT has prepared electoral rolls for Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee without photos of voters as the voters lists for Assembly elections and Lok Sabha election are with photos of voters.
“We apprehend that the non- Sikh voters having Singh with their name will also be included in the voter list and it is a clear violation of Jammu Kashmir Gurdwara Act,” he added.
The Jammu and Kashmir Sikh United Front has appealed to the Election Commission to make the needful omissions in the voters lists. The voters lists be made with photo of voters, otherwise, it will create a mess during the voting process, the Front added.
The SUF also sought the intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha into the matter. It said that the concerned authorities should be directed to properly prepare the voter lists.
Several members including Darbinder Singh, Mohinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Raja Singh, Ravinder Singh Sarpanch, Charanjeet Singh, Prof. Yudhvir Singh, Gajan Singh Paramjit Singh Raina, Kulwant Singh, Surinder Singh Kala, Surjeet Singh and others were also present in the meeting./
