Doda, May 13: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad accompanied by Minister for PWD (R&B) and Mechanical Engineering Abdul Majid Wani today visited earthquake affected areas of Doda district and addressed a series of public meetings.
MLA Bhaderwah Mohd. Sharief Niaz, MLA Ramban Ashok Kumar besides other District and Sectoral Officers were present on the occasion.
While addressing the gatherings in Kilhotran, Bhatyas, Chiralla, Khankoot, Bartoon, Kanthi and Trown, Mr. Azad said that best ever possible assistance and relief will be provided to the quake affected people in the region as various houses have suffered severe damages.
He said tents have been provided by the Indian Red Cross Society, New Delhi for onward distribution among the severely affected people whose houses have suffered major damages due to the earthquake. He also said that assessment of damages of residential as well as Government property is going on in the entire region as various teams have been deputed for conduct of survey at block, tehsil and village level in entire district. He directed the officers to ensure coverage of all the affected people in the survey report so that relief and assistance reaches to the deserving affected population.
Mr. Azad said that each and every affected/ deserving family whose houses have suffered damages will be provided relief and help by the Government so that they will get rehabilitated and State as well as Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is fully aware about the situation in the region and is committed to provide all possible relief to the affected people.
He said that there is need to formulate and implement Disaster Management Plan in the region to minimize the loss of life and property in any such eventuality in future and underlined the need to create awareness among the people about precautions and measures to be taken in any such natural calamity.
Mr. Azad also said that a team of National Disaster Management Authority New Delhi (NDMA) has been deputed in the region to access and ascertain the extent of damage in residential as well as Government building.
Mr. Azad also said that collective and coordinated efforts are being made by the State and Central Governments to provide relief to earthquake affected people in the region.
The team consists of Prof. C.V Murty from IIT Chennai Madras, Prof. Pardeep Kumar from Department of Civil Engineering IIT Hyderabad, A.K Jain Under Secretary NDMA New Delhi, Hari Kumar President Geo-Hazard Society, Ajay Chaurasia President Scientist CSIR, Central Building Research Institute Roorki and Anoop Kumar Director Keranth RVK Specialist New Delhi.
