9 bovines seized, 2 smugglers held

UDHAMPUR, Apr 22: The police foiled two bovine smuggling attempts in separate incidents in Udhampur district and rescued nine bovine animals, being transported illegally without valid permission to Kashmir.
Reports said a police party from Rehambal during naka at Phalata Chowk (NH), intercepted Mahindra load carrier No. JK02DN-1346. During checking, 4 bovine animals were found loaded in a cruel manner and tied with ropes in the vehicle.
The driver Liaqat Ali, son of Billa, resident of Jassuan, Jammu and co-passenger- Mohd Ashraf, son of Yaqoob Chouhan from Larnu, Anantnag failed to produce valid permission for transportation. All the bovines were rescued. Both the accused were arrested. In this regard, FIR No. 83/2026 U/S 223 BNS & 11 PCA Act stands registered at PS Rehambal.
Meanwhile, the police during naka at Battal, in Majalta, intercepted a vehicle No. JK13H-3468, on way to Udhampur side from Samba. During checking five bovine animals were found being transported without any valid permission.
All the bovines were rescued and in this regard FIR No. 52/2026 was registered. Further, investigation into both the cases is underway.
