8th Annual Statistics Day celebrated

SRINAGAR, June 29: 8th Annual Statistics Day was held under the patronage of Director General Economics and Statistics, J&K in the conference hall of Directorate General, E & S, J&K-Srinagar to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prof P C Mahalanobis-the doyen of Indian Statistical System.
The theme for this year’s statistics day was ‘Service Sector Statistics’.
The officers of all ranks including Joint Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and other staff members from Statistics and Planning fraternity attended the function.
The Joint Director Planning, F A Yaswi was the chief guest on the occasion, who deliberated on the importance of the day and highlighted the prominence of Service Statistics for effective planning and economic development.
Speaking on the occasion, A S Magray, Dy Director Planning, emphasized upon the need of qualitative statistics for effective planning.
Malik Suhail, Assistant Director Planning, while sharing the dais highlighted the importance and reliance of economy on service sector and consequent policy suggestions.
Dr M Maqbool Bhat, Assistant Director Planning also spoke on the occasion and underlined some data gaps in service sectors statistics with suggestions for technical stimulations to rectify the same.
The new and latest techniques of data mining and effective planning were also discussed thread bare.
Special thanks were given to A H Qadri, Regional Joint Director, Kashmir for facilitating the successful accomplishment of the programme through efficient managerial and logistic support.
At the conclusion, sincere gratitude was articulated for R A Banday, Director General Economics and Statistics, J&K for his leadership qualities.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Mir Javid Rasool.
Meanwhile,    the National Sample Survey Office under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, Regional Office, Jammu  also celebrating the 8th ‘Statistics Day’ in the Conference Hall of Amar Singh Club, Bikram Chowk, Jammu.
Officers from NSSO (FOD), Jammu, Sub Regional Office, Udhampur and officers of Directorate of Economics and Statistics participated in the Statistics Day. The theme for the was ‘Service Sector Statistics’.
The function started with lighting of lamp and paying tributes to Prof P C Mahalanobis by Vishu Maini, Deputy Director General and officers of NSSO (FOD) Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion,Vishu Maini, Deputy Director General, NSSO (FOD), Jammu presented a brief life sketch of Late Prof P C Mahalanobis.
V K Malla, Senior Statistical Officer and HO, NSSO (FOD), Jammu also spoke on the topic Services Sector Statistics.
Other officers who spoke on the occasion included S L Khajuria, M K Raina, P N Pandita, B S Bhan, Hem Raj Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, Swaran Lal, P S Jamwal, and Rajeev Kumar Arora.
Vote of thanks was presented by V K Malla, Head of Office, NSSO (FOD), Jammu.
The Directorate of Economics and Statistics J&K through Regional Joint Director, Evaluation and Statistics, Jammu organized a function at the Auditorium of Statistical Training School, DES Janipur, Jammu. The theme was ‘Service Statistics Statics’.
Veena Thapar , Joint Director DES was the chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of service sector in the State.
Ashu Gupta, Senior Instructor, STS and Sunil Pandita, Deputy Director, STS were among the participants.
Gurneet Kour, Assistant Director, RJD was the stage secretary, while Bharat B Bhagat, Assistant Director RJD presented vote of thanks.
